Titus 3: 4-8 and mormonism

I haven’t posted in a while because I have been focused on other issues. We do have the missionaries coming over tonight, but we only get them for an hour so I am going to focus on a particular passage and see what they come up with. The passage is from Titus 3:

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. (Titus 3: 4-8)

I like this passage because it touches on so many topics that are contrary to mormonism simultaneously. It talks about salvation being apart from works, speaks of good works being a result not a cause of salvation, it speaks of “God our Savior” and “Jesus Christ our Savior”, showing that the Bible teaches that Christ is God. I will try to post what the outcome is from tonight’s meeting at some point tomorrow.
